How my intentional fitness goal got me what I needed. / by Marlous Teh

remember why you started

Almost end of the month!✨
.
I think any goals & commitments that are important don’t necessarily need to be time specific. However it’s an interesting learning point to see how we’re tracking one month into 2019!
.
What do you want to do? Have? Feel? Who do you want to be? Where are you at with that?
.
Last year one of my goals was “The fittest & healthiest me”.
.
And although I’ve been a gym member for years and have been “pretty active”, I’d always been relying more heavily on motivation, or how I feel, and often have output depend on that. Aka go and do what feels good, variety of classes etc, which hasn’t been bad.
.
After last year when I committed myself to train with my PT for 12 weeks and worked a training program and nutrition guidance, lots has shifted. I remember setting my goal with my PT and feeling like “this is it!”. I worked hard, never missed a training session even when I was overseas for work (although I have to stress it was more nutrition that made a huge difference in changing body composition), days where I cried wtf I was doing (on diet days). But I kept my eyes on the prize.
.
Now about a year after I set that goal, I’ve come to realise that thoughts of “I’m tired, should I go today?” Or “should I go tomorrow?” Or “I don’t feel like going” no longer matter anymore.
.
I still have those thoughts, but before I know it, I’m already in my gear on my way to the gym.. Of course I still listen to my body (more so than ever) ensuring I’m not injuring myself when I need to rest. But what I want to share is that I’ve reached a point where my fitness and physical exercise have become such a priority, that often no matter what and where I am, I will do it. Even on a holiday or travelling, I find a gym or move inside/outside/wherever I can. Never more committed and truly living my healthiest and fittest me.
.
This all started when I set my goal with intention, wrote this in my journal and looked at it practically every single day. To remind myself this is what I’m going to move toward.
.
I’m making it my goal to reach that same level of commitment in other areas of my life. 💪🏻
.
Eyes on the prize, baby 😘❤️
